Tri Span 5K

Saturday July 5, 2008
In front of the Water Front Park downtown Wilmington.

  • The 5K course is precisely measured and takes you through historic downtown Wilmington. You will start and finish in front of Water Front Park. The course takes you along the Cape Fear River, tours some beautiful old neighborhoods, turns back to the north end of town via 2nd street, and loops back for the finish back on Water Street with a fast, flat quarter mile sprint. It’s a fun 5K with a little bite due to some rolling hills and a couple of short, steep inclines in the downtown area. Awards are 3-deep in age groups and 3-deep for Open and Masters M/F winners. There are two water stops on the course. The first one is shared with the 10K runners but the second is only for the 5K runners. There will be sprinklers at the finish, fresh locals melons and other goodies for refreshments as well as Gatorade and water to hydrate with for recovery. You can park in the parking deck for free or on the street until 9:00 am at no charge. Gray Lambeth has directed the race for the last 16 years and it is a race put on “by runners, for runners.” We will do our best to make it the best 5K you have ever done.

Tri Span 10K

Saturday July 5, 2008
In front of the Water Front Park downtown Wilmington.

  • The Tri-span 10K is just that – you will span three bridges on your run. The race starts on Water Street in front of the park. You will run south to cross the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, then you will run into the grounds of the Battleship Memorial area where you will be treated to a beautiful view of the ship and also downtown Wilmington across the river from your location. Next you will cross two more bridges and return to the start area via Front and then Water Street. The finish is a flat, fast quarter mile run past the Hilton Hotel to the finish at Water Front Park. There are four water stops along the route you will be running. The course record is 30:40 for males and 36:43 for females so you can see that fast times are quite possible. There will be ice on the course as well as a fire truck to spray you down if you wish – emergency calls allowing, of course. The likely temperature is around 74 degrees at race start but if you are lucky it will be even cooler. Come join us to run the Tri-span, one of the best races in the southeast with a 26-year history of fun and challenge. It’s a race “put on for runners, by runners.
